Architecture and Urban Design

Pro Vision advise on a wide range of projects, where a client's requirements for new development needs to be carefully fitted into an existing urban context. These types of projects rely on the skills of the urban designer and architect to:

  • establish the overall acceptable grain of the area; and
  • find opportunities for interesting forms that maximise site value.

This work also relies on the skilful and appropriate use of detailing to give buildings their individuality and connect the buildings and spaces created with the surrounding town fabric.

Woodsome Lodge, Weybridge

building_regulations

Woodsome Lodge was a low quality, low density 1960`s scheme. An opportunity for redevelopment presented itself. Existing buildings are to be demolished and replaced with a more efficient layout with new high quality buildings. The accommodation consists of 18 new townhouses with associated parking, garages and landscaping.

The main feature of the scheme is a new crescent building. This building helps tie together the new development with buildings on the adjoining sites. The scheme has a strong central axis and procession into the site ending at the crescent terrace.

The height of the new buildings is kept down by the use of two storey structures with rooms in the roof.

The area is an eclectic mixture of modern and traditional styles. The buildings themselves are designed in a traditional manner to be distinctive where there is no particular architectural language worthy of emulation. The proposed buildings are 18th century Georgian / Regency in style.

The design theme is evident in the general massing and proportions of the existing buildings around the site and in the proposed new buildings. It is proposed that the materials be render and yellow stock brick for the walls with reconstituted stone copings, string courses and cills and slate for the roofs.

The site was originally acquired by SG Investments Ltd and subsequently built out by Crest Homes. Pro Vision acted for both the intial developer and the eventual housebuilder.
